The Voices in the Sea exhibit and companion website demonstrate the diversity of marine mammals in the world's oceans and the important role that sound plays in all aspects of their lives. In the website videos, scientists describe their research efforts, show new technologies that are making this work possible, and share the most current insight into the natural history and conservation of these animals.
The Voices in the Sea activities use the website videos and images as a place to start student driven discussions in the 3rd through 5th grade classroom. These activities also work in an informal learning environment like an aquarium, nature center, science center, or zoo. Each activity comes with a complete lesson plan. The Student Journal includes the data sheets for the activities as well as areas for notes, reflection, and sketching. The Journal Scoring Rubric provides a resource for teachers on grading student work.
All activities are aligned with the National Science Education Standards and the Ocean Literacy Principles.
